Why the Heat Dome Sizzling Texas Won’t Budge

The Texas Tribune – A heat dome is a weather condition that traps hot air over a certain location, bringing triple digit temperatures to much of Texas and prompting spikes in heat-related illness and calls for electricity conservation to avoid overloading the state’s power grid.

Heat is one of the most dangerous types of weather, typically killing more people annually in the U.S. than hurricanes, tornadoes or floods. To avoid heat-related illness – including symptoms of weakness, dizziness and nausea – the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends limiting exposure to the sun and hydrating with electrolytes throughout the day.
