WA Contents – Nzambi Matee, a 29-year-old trained engineer and schooled in biochemistry, has created a lightweight and low-cost building material that is made of recycled plastic with sand to make bricks that are stronger than concrete material.
“The negative impact we are having on the environment is huge,” Matee said. “It’s up to us to make this reality better. Start with whatever local solution you can find and be consistent with it. The results will be amazing.”
Plastic waste is also a worldwide problem. Globally, 1 million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute, and up to 5 trillion single-use plastic bags are used every year.
