Texas Parks & Wildlife – Wetlands are the transitional zones between uplands and deep water – areas where water covers soil all or part of the time – protecting and improving water quality, providing fish and wildlife habitats, storing floodwaters and maintaining surface water flow during dry periods.
Often thought of as a relatively dry state, Texas contains millions of acres of wetlands of varying types, performing a wide array of functions that are invaluable to wildlife and humankind.
